Had to join the group, deserve to after 30 years of playing the game...and no HOLE IN ONE TO MY NAME..Took up the game at St. Andrews, based there with the RAF. Dragged off by a friend to have a hit of the ball, never tried before..April 79 off 24.. October 79 off 12...but not until 07 August 2009 did the moment finally arrive in the desert of Kuwait. Ahmadi golf club, 9th hole 164 yards a shot that had me thinking that's nice..Went to the brown, yes brown not green, no ball on green, looked in the bunker... no ball. ever the optimist look in the hole.. The cry of joy heard back at St. Andrews..There is a god in heaven, he came August 7..Have a great golf year .. HIT THE HELL OUT OF IT WEE BOBBY

Well well people, this is definatley not the first nor will it be the last time I tell this story!

On a boys golfing weekend, back in '07 at Tasmania's renownded Banbougle Dunes (http://www.barnbougledunes.com.au/) golf course designed by Tom Doak and Michael Clayton, I hit what can only be described as a fluke.

The scene of the crime, was the 5th hole (Par 3, 144 - http://barnbougledunes.com.au/the_course/view_the_course/hole_5.html).

As this hole has spectacular vista views over Bass Straight, my friends and I took out the camera to capture these spoken of views. As I had just come off a par on the previous hole, I was to tee off first. And as the camera was in hand, a friend 'Maca' decided to get a couple of actions shots.

Little did 'Maca' know, the photo he would take would end up being a 'Hole In One'. (See my profile shot for mentioned photo.)

The shot itself, although feeling as sweet as any shot could, headed left of the pin (event left of the green), and hurtled towards the thick rough. Miraculously the ball hit a mound left of the green, and popped right.

From the tee, myself, Maca, Jacky Treehorn and Bing Li watched a ball that was looking like being lost, suddenly find an imaginary line leading straight directly into the cup.

Actually seeing the ball go in, was mystifying to say the least!

An almost out of body experience was felt. Words cannot describe, the feeling watching a blurry white dot on the green disappear! I felt as if a shot of adrenalin was pumped directly into my heart!

Needless to say the walk up to the green to retrieve my ball from the cup was one i'll never forget!

What made the experience all the more enjoyable, was being able to experience it with three great friends.

Heaven forbid anyone ever hitting the perfect shot all by themselves!

Hole in 1 #1: Cordova Bay Golf Course, Hole 6, 209 yards, using a 5-wood, was dieing to get some of last nights Indian out of me, ran from the 5th hole green, hit my shot, ran, rather awkwardly, to the toilet, then spent 5 mins searching before discovering I had my first hole in one

Hole in 1 #2: The Legacy Golf Club, Hole 5, playing about 135 yards, skanked a 9 iron as I was in between clubs. I played the back 9 first, was even par until 17, then went double, triple to finish off what was my front nine, then went birdie, birdie, birdie, par, hole in one, par, birdie and shot 30 on my back 9. I think i peaked and never regained my form after!

Hole in 1 #3 The Vintage Club, Hole 2, was giving a playing lesson, hit a little wedge as playing from the whites at just 110, my student had never played golf before and obviously didnt understand the concept of a hole in one, nevertheless my caddie was impressed

nowadays I hack it around attempting impossible shots i once could play...

Well done Chris. Keep practicing - only another 5 Aces to go until you beat the old man (sorry, I mean your proud father:-)

Great effort man. Some people go through their entire golfing lives without ever getting an ace...and you have got one in your very first year.

Ok all you golfers out there. Let's here about your Aces!!! I've had 5 Hole'n'ones in my golfing career and I'll share those with you down the road. A couple that were really bizarre..One that was in competition on a Par 4..

However, i'd much rather start this off as a proud father. .. My son, Chris 13yrs old, just recently caught the golf bug when I took him to the final round of this years Masters (Stuart and Steve were nice to hook me up with tickets).

Chris has always been a soccer dude and never really aspired or showed much interest in golf until going to Augusta. I had a gut feeling he might catch the bug one day but wasn't for sure. Trust me he is hooked now, because on May 9, 2009 at Cane Patch Par 3 in Myrtle Beach he aced Hole #8, 52 yards, using a Nike gap wedge. He is now practicing daily (even listening to Dad for advice) and loves the game immensely. Yes, it was a short hole but the great golf memory it has given him is huge! The game of Golf is full of rewards that can happen in a split second when you are least expending it and just might have a major positive impact in your life for years to come!
