Because We Are Crazy About Golf

Combine a great story and the awesome power of Twitter and what do you get? A No1 Amazon Best Seller of couse.

When our TwitRGolfers member, John Richardson from N Ireland, set himself the goal of breaking par within twelve months I wonder if he dreamt that he would not only achieve his goal, but he would top the Amazon best seller list in Golf.

Well that is exactly what happened and this was the (very, very small) part of the story that I was privileged to witness.

By the way, in N Ireland, when you say you have "whipped someone's arse" what that really means is that, whilst you have enormous respect for their work, the fact remains that, in this particular instance, you have achieved a slightly better outcome.

Being originally from N Ireland myself, I thought I should clarify that for all the Bob Rotella fans out there.

Of course John is quick to give Rotella credit for being a mentor. "I bought every single one of his books and a couple on audio so I'm clearly a fan! Nice to beat him though!"

So what part did Twitter have to play in the John Richardson success story?

Well, John has amassed some 4000+ Twitter followers and he deliberately chose to promote his book via Twitter rather than go down the traditional path.

According to John: "The fascinating thing is how it shows the power of twitter vs old media. I actively chose not to have an old-fashioned launch"

Great effort John Richardson - you have taught us all how to whip arse.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention You can Buy Dream On Here

That's an extremely generous review Ali - it means a tremendous amount to me. As you can probably tell the golf and the book are really only a part of a journey and something of a longer term challenge and adventure.

Many thanks (and thanks also Bob for purchasing and RTing on Twitter).

Cheers

John

I've ordered from Amazon, and can't wait to get my copy. This average golfer is looking forward to the challenge!

I just finished reading John's book (which he generously sent to me via his publisher all the way from Belfast). Actually, I finished reading it in one day, thats how bloody intriguing this guy's challenge was. John Richardson has an amazing talent- and I'm not talking about his golfing ability here which is unquestionable. I believe John's book is doing so well (and long may it continue to do so) because not only did he accomplish an incredible feat, he tells his story with a refreshing blend of honesty, vulnerability and displays a great sense of humor, a quality that undoubtedly stood him in good stead throughout his challenge year.
There are a lot of people hurting around the world right now, struggling to find the silver lining in this dark economic cloud- here's a story that you cannot help but be inspired by...John isn't Tony Robbins or Bob Rotella...and he doesn't try to be either. He's someone the average person with a 9-5, family, mortgages and bills can relate to and thats the beauty of this book.Unlike so called "Reality TV" where tears, smiles and confessions are clearly scripted, Dream On is effortlessly believable...
I intend to write a better, longer review in the near future but I just wanted to get my first thoughts out there. This book was a joy to read and I would strongly recommend it...I guarantee it will inspire you!

I have five too Ali. And two on audio book too so there's no concern on my part for him.

I tried to contact him at the start of my challenge but couldn't get any response from him at all. I did, however, get a response from Bob Cullen who writes the books with him. He was a good guy and told me that IMO the challenge was impossible too. He said 18 months as an absolute minimum.

"The golf of your dreams" was one of the books that tipped me over into action to begin with. Realistically though all the info is contained in "Golf is not a game of perfect".

Thanks again for the support Aidan.

Couldn't be happier for you John...you were one of the first people I interacted with when I got onto Twitter a couple of months back and your enthusiasm for the game is infectious...I can't wait to read your book, having read the first few chapters on your website.
Congratulations on a job well done...and I wouldn't feel too bad for Bob Rotella, Aidan. He's sold enough books (I think I have 5, still a nutter). Its about time somebody else took the number 1 spot. Good on you John!
